The Falcon Cup

Inter-Corporate Golf League

The Falcon Cup league provides corporate golf enthusiasts with a unique platform to participate in competitive tournaments representing their companies. Corporate golf teams of 12 players each compete against each other on the elite regional courses in multiple qualifying rounds. Unlike in most golf competitions where players pursue personal glory, here, the players are dedicated to contributing to the success of the team. The top four teams advance to the elimination rounds comprising semifinals and final showdown. The final tournament concludes with a celebratory reception, where the winning team receives the prestigious Falcon Cup trophy for their company and the prize money is directed to the charity organization selected by the winning team.

REGIONAL LEAGUE

The Falcon Cup is an annual inter-corporate golf league held across multiple regions in the USA. All rounds take place on weekends over approximately three months. Each regional league operates independently, and game schedules may vary based on specific weather conditions in each region.

LEAGUE COMPOSITION

The Falcon Cup League consists of multiple corporate teams. Each team has 12 players (6 pairs) and a Team Captain. Participating teams will play one another in a four-ball match format.

PLAYERS

Falcon Cup welcomes all amateur golfers who are corporate employees, contractors, partners, or customers of the companies they represent. The team may register more than 12 players in the Falcon Cup system and rotate them during the qualifying rounds.

TEAM CAPTAIN

The team captain serves as the leader and representative of the entire team. Multiple team captains may be appointed within a team. They are responsible for selecting the 12 players to participate in a particular round.

FOUR-BALL MATCH

Four-Ball match play involves two players from one team competing directly against two players from another team. Each member of a two-person pair plays his/her own ball. The pair whose player has the lowest Net score (handicap adjusted) wins the hole for their team. If the low scores are tied for both pairs, the hole is a tie.

MATCH-POINTS

At the end of the eighteen holes, a two-person pair with the highest holes won is declared a winner. They earn two match-points for their team. In case of a tie, each pair is awarded 1 match-point.

TEAM-POINTS

At the end of a tournament, all match-points scored by all six pairs are added to determine the team’s score. A team with more than 6 match-points is declared a winner. The winning team earns 2 team-points. In case of a tie, each team earns 1 team-point.

COMPETITION FORMAT

QUALIFYING ROUNDS

The qualifying rounds are played in a Swiss-system tournament format. All teams play in each round competing against one other opponent team at a time in a four-ball match. The teams are paired using a set of rules designed to ensure that each competitor plays opponents with a similar running score, but does not play the same opponent more than once. The team pairing for each round is done after the previous round has ended and depends on its results. At the end of the qualifying rounds, all team-points scored by each team are added and four teams with the highest aggregate team-points earned in all rounds will advance to the semi-final rounds.

In case there are two teams with the same team-points, their cumulative match-points will be considered to break the tie. In the highly unlikely event there is a tie with cumulative  match-points, the sum of the winning holes will be considered to break the tie.

SEMI-FINALS and FINAL

Semi-finals and final tournaments are also played in four-ball match format. All players playing in the semi-finals and final tournaments must have played in at least one qualifying round. Unlike the qualifying rounds, there are no ties in the semi-final and final tournaments, they must have an outright winner. During semi-finals and final tournaments, if both teams have the same match-points, the tie is decided based upon the score for the last nine holes, then by the last six holes, then by the last three holes and then by the 18th hole. If there is still a tie, then it will be broken by chance. In events with a shot-gun start, the last nine holes are still considered holes 10-18.
