REGIONAL LEAGUE
The Falcon Cup is an annual inter-corporate golf league held in multiple regions across the USA. Each regional league operates independently, and play may occur at different times due to the weather conditions specific to each region.
LEAGUE COMPOSITION
The Falcon Cup League consists of multiple corporate teams. Each team has 12 players (6 pairs) and a Team Captain.Ā Participating teams will play one another in aĀ four-ball matchĀ format.ā
FOUR-BALL MATCH
Four-Ball match play involves two players from one team competing directly against two players from another team. Each member of a two-person pair plays his/her own ball. The pair whose player has the lowest Net score (handicap adjusted) wins the hole for their team. If the low scores are tied for both pairs, the hole is a tie.
MATCH-POINTS
At the end of the eighteen holes, a two-person pair with the highest holes won is declared a winner. They earn two match-points for their team. In case of a tie, each pair is awarded 1 match-point.
TEAM-POINTS
At the end of a tournament, all match-points scored by all six pairs are added to determine the teamās score. A team with more than 6 match-points is declared a winner. The winning team earns 2 team-points. In case of a tie, each team earns 1 team-point.
Player Eligibility
Falcon Cup welcomes all amateur golfers employed or affiliated with their representing company. Team captain should be able to show association upon request. All players must have a current established Global Handicap Index Number (GHIN) and they must be at least 21 years of age on the day they are playing the tournament. Every team may register 12 to 36 players in the Falcon Cup system.
TEAM CAPTAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Team captain is the leader of the team. Team captainās responsibilities can be shared by more than one person. Team captains may or may not play in the tournament.
- Team captain must register all team members in the system along with their GHIN number. No permanent roster is required for each team and there is no limit on the number of players that may be used during the qualification rounds. New players may be added at any time during the qualifying rounds if they meet Player Eligibility requirements.
- Team Captains should post the finalized list of 12 players (from the registered players) in the Team Match Portal no later than three days before each tournament date. For Semi-final and Final rounds, the team captain must choose players who have played in at least one qualifying round.
- Team Captains shall resolve any conflicts during the tournaments and ensure that the competition scores are entered in the system on the same day of the tournament date.
- Team captain must ensure that each playerās scores have been recorded, adjusted, and posted in a timely manner.
COMPETITION FORMAT
QUALIFYING ROUNDS
The qualifying rounds are played in a Swiss-system tournament format. All teams play in each round competing against one other opponent team at a time in a four-ball match. The teams are paired using a set of rules designed to ensure that each competitor plays opponents with a similar running score, but does not play the same opponent more than once. The team pairing for each round is done after the previous round has ended and depends on its results. At the end of the qualifying rounds, all team-points scored by each team are added and four teams with the highest aggregate team-points earned in all rounds will advance to the semi-final rounds.
In case there are two teams with the same team-points, their cumulative match-points will be considered to break the tie. In the highly unlikely event there is a tie with cumulativeĀ match-points, the sum of the winning holes will be considered to break the tie.
SEMI-FINALS and FINAL
Semi-finals and final tournaments are also played in four-ball match format. All players playing in the semi-finals and final tournaments must have played in at least one qualifying round. Unlike the qualifying rounds, there are no ties in the semi-final and final tournaments, they must have an outright winner. During semi-finals and final tournaments, if both teams have the same match-points, the tie is decided based upon the score for the last nine holes, then by the last six holes, then by the last three holes and then by the 18th hole. If there is still a tie, then it will be broken by chance. In events with a shot-gun start, the last nine holes are still considered holes 10-18.
CLAIMING THE CUP
The winner of the final tournament is awarded the Falcon Cup of the Year trophy. The Falcon Cup winning team would have claimed its place in top four corporate teams in qualifying rounds and outright won semi-final and Final tournaments. A great team accomplishment in itself!
